Nice place generally, though some aspects were ramshackle and sub-standard and there was a serious mould problem in the bedroom (bad enough to ruin clothes in the built-in wardrobe before we realised) and traces of mould elsewhere. The agency (at this point Gibson Gammon, later taken over by Henry Adams) told us when we moved in that there was no mould problem. Then both the agent and the landlord tried to blame us for the mould when we moved out. The back garden was an absolute wasteland when we arrived, choked with brambles and full of debris from the previous tenants; there were stickers on two of the bedroom windows that no-one had bothered to remove. We sorted this out and put a great deal of effort, not to mention money, into clearing the garden ourselves, a project which we not only didn't mind but actively enjoyed. We never imagined that at the end of the tenancy we would be presented with a bill for professional gardening and an onslaught of horrified criticism of the apparent lack of maintenance... despite clear evidence both of the original state of the garden and all the work we had done over the years. It was the same story with the house. I had the most unbelievably difficult job just trying to get them to look at the actual evidence!
