Living directly above the landlord resulted in a highly uncomfortable living situation and a hostile environment. Although she explicitly approved my two cats prior to signing the tenancy agreement, she began sending identical, frantic text messages in the middle of the night just two months into the lease. She claimed the cats were making excessive noise and causing her severe sleep deprivation. According to Citizens Information guidelines, her demands lacked any objective legal basis regarding standard domestic pet movement. However, due to the proximity and the persistent late-night messages, I constantly worried about landlord retaliation or unfair eviction. Out of fear for my housing security, I felt forced to comply with her unreasonable requests, leaving me permanently walking on eggshells in my own home.
Furthermore, communication was incredibly difficult; her responsiveness was consistently low, and it regularly took extensive chasing just to receive a basic reply. The property also represents poor value for money. Research indicates that average monthly mortgage payments in this specific area are around £600, making the £825 monthly rent she demanded highly self-serving and money-grabbing, as it was clearly designed to fully cover her mortgage while generating a significant personal profit at the tenant's expense.

Property address is 46E Miller Street

The property itself was generally small, cramped, and poorly designed for long-term living. The kitchen space was highly restrictive, making basic meal preparation difficult due to the lack of room. Additionally, the attic bedroom suffered from severe temperature regulation issues and became unbearably hot during the summer months, which ultimately forced me to sleep on the downstairs sofa for weeks at a time. Storage within the property was non-existent; instead, simple metallic sheds were provided in the garden as a substitute. However, these structures were completely non-watertight, resulting in damp conditions that caused my stored personal belongings to develop severe mold and become entirely unusable.

The attic bedroom window directly overlooks a neighboring pub’s smoking area. As a result, opening the window during the summer months to combat the heat means you must be prepared to tolerate significant, daily noise lasting late into the night. This creates a difficult trade-off between enduring an unbearably hot room or dealing with constant disruption from the street below.

Area rating
While the surrounding area is generally safe, the on-street parking is highly competitive and presents a significant risk to residents' vehicles. My own car was struck so severely while parked outside that it required a full month of repairs and cost me £300 in out-of-pocket bills. Although the landlady later admitted that she actually witnessed the damage on her way to work, she chose not to alert me at the time, nor did she make any effort to get further involved or assist with information. This complete lack of neighborly support or basic courtesy further emphasized the challenging nature of managing a tenancy while living directly above her.
